Forces of the universe

“When something is working well, double and redouble your bets. You may not know why it’s working so well, but push as hard as you can while the forces of the universe are bending your way.” (Richard Koch)

Sophisticated ignorance

Don’t ignore something because you don’t understand, ignore something because you know why.

Back to business: Information overflow can be overwhelming. Beware of paralysis – don’t let it distract you. Look out for relevance and try to recognize patterns. If the data doesn’t contain material information, dismiss it. However, always be open for discoveries: Value can sometimes be found in the unexpected; and in the details.

The market

“For every seller there’s a buyer.” (Market)

Back to business: There’s no right or wrong, it depends to whom you want to sell.

Flowers and weeds

“Startups are fragile plants – seedlings, in fact. These seedlings are worth protecting, because they grow into the trees of the economy. Much of the economy’s growth is their growth.” (Paul Graham)

Weeds grow everywhere. No matter the environment, they eat their way through. It is the special flowers that need a special environment to flourish. If you have wonderful, blessed seeds, don’t waste them. Choose a place with care. Where the environment nurtures. Where they can grow.

Back to business: Some business concepts need a certain market environment. If your ideas don’t work out, external factors might be the reason. It can relate to the preferences, tastes and mentalities of the people, but climatic conditions could play a role, too. Some flowers need plenty of sunshine, others need rain. The same goes for ideas. Also consider timing so that you don’t miss the season: Plant your idea seeds in the right soil, at the right time.
